Yes, it is how you described it. It was for clearance, I mean if it was possible to install it without the gearbox then we would do that, because the gearbox is costy, but the space is tighter there as it looks for first sight, especially because the table can move down making the space even smaller, so the 90° rotation of the motor was nessessary. And also a higher gear ratio was nessessary to have enough torque to move that heavy table than what was possible with a single timing belt gearing.
