spindle controll thru the vfd using MB2 and uc300eth no go

Postby tracar » Mon Jul 17, 2017 3:31 am

i have the AC Tech SCF inverters :
http://www.maxymtechnologies.com/Maxym% ... Manual.pdf

im using the uc300eth piggybacking THE mb2 board..
i have everything wired up and working well, BUT i can not figgure out the software / wiring connection from the MB2 to the VFD.

the cnc has the dynamic brake wired in and working properly :
http://www.maxymtechnologies.com/Maxym% ... Wiring.pdf

along with a remote keypad to shuttle thru the vfd functions and spindle speed/on/off also working properly
http://www.maxymtechnologies.com/Maxym% ... Wiring.pdf

What eludes me is how to get the uccnc software to start and stop the spindle , i have the mb2 relays configured that when i click on uccnc software cw or ccw the relays activate for the fwd and rev of the vfd, the AO output led on the mb2 will dim and brighten according to adjusting the software speed " 0-300%"

mb2 manual:...
http://warp9td.com/images/BOB_Vendors/W ... %20E12.pdf

the wiring from the MB2's AL,AO,AH and relays i understand, the wiring from this to the vfd i dont.....

has anyone here a clue to what i could be doing wrong?

i think the issue is in the vfd parameter settings, section 14:

I think the first thing you should figure out if the issue is with UCCNC settings or with VFD settings.
The best way to figure this out is to pick up a multimeter and measure the signals on the VFD side first.
Measure:

- The start signal. Make sure it has the correct polarity. Usually it is active low when ON, so make sure the VFD receives the start relay signal.
- The analog input signal. Make sure that the VFD receives this signal.

I advice to first program a high S parameter, possibly the highest value to get an around 10Volts (or your max setting) signal, so you can be sure it will start the VFD if getting out there.
Measure all signals directly on the VFD screw terminals first and if any of the signals are missing then go backwards to the BOB to see where the signal gone.

And if you have both signals on the VFD then also verify that they are connected to the proper screw terminals on the VFD.
And finally verify the VFD settings, if it is properly configured to receive the start signal on the input terminal where the start signal is connected to. And that it is even configured to receive the start signal from the screw terminals. Usually the default is that the VFD listens to the built in control panel commands and not the signals from the screw terminals.
Also verify that the VFD is configured to receive the speed command from the screw terminals.

There's a newer MB2 manual here:
http://www.cncroom.com/downloads/MB2%20 ... 0E16R4.pdf

I think it should be wired like this:

MB2 ----TB-2 terminals ----- UCCNC port-pin

AL = terminal 2
AO = terminal 5 Port 3 - pin 17
AH = terminal 6

NO1 - terminal 12 port 1 pin 1 (M3)
CM1 - terminal 2
NO2 - terminal 13A port 1 pin 14 (M4)
CM2 - terminal 2

The issues were with the vfd, when the original manufacturer installed the wiring for the remote buttons, they had placed a jumper from the start to gnd, closing the circuit, and enabling start thru pin 13c somehow... After resetting to default, and removing the jumper, , and a few menu items changed in the vfd, it now spins up with the uccnc software, but i dont have speed controll, its always full speed ahead !
The spindles i have are rated 200-300hz 12000-18000rpm
I couldnt figgure out the uccnc settings to get it to be variable 0-10v signal

Anyone have setting ideas for uccnc?
Anyone have a similar vfd, and settings for?

0V would be 0Hz.

Set PWM Min duty to 66%
PWM max duty to 100%
Minimum velocity = 12000
Maximum velocity = 18000.

You'll probably run into the same issue that I did. If your VFD provides 10V to the MB2, then the MB2 will only output about ±9V, so you won't get the full 300Hz.
Your VFD may allow you to adjust the 10V out to a higher lever. If so, then you can adjust it until you get 10V from the MB2.
What I did was change my VFD to use a 0-5V signal, and used a max PWM duty of 50%, which gave me 5V at full speed.

Yeah, mb2 lets out 9.7vdc to the vfd
But i couldnt get get the board to scale the outpot right,

If you command 12,000 rpm, what is the voltage at the VFD? It should be 6.66V.
I get perfect voltage output from 8,000 to 24,000 with my MB2. (Except where it cuts off at 9.7V or so.)
Make sure"Use Pulleys" is not checked.

It hangs in at 9.7
If i dial the front page % down the spindl! kinda slows with each press. but quickly returns to 9.7vdc and full speed . reguardless of the S setting.

When i measure the voltage while spindle off and in vfd change paramater menu "P01-P60" ( spindles wont spin ) the voltage is correct and dials down to 0vdc without issue, even the % + or - work. So the prob i think is with the vfd settings. Possibly the keypad being conected..

Disconnect the wire from AO on the MB2, and measure the voltage at the AO terminal. That should confirm that the issue is the VFD.

Make sure Parameter 05 is set to 03 (0-10V).

measures 0vdc, when i give start command goes to 9.7vdc, this is variable voltage output , 0-9.7 it works fine..
