UCCNC and PCs

Since most new PC's in the last 5 years have had 64 bit OS's, you have the advantage of a more current OS. Not sure why anyone would want to run a 32bit OS, given the choice. Unless you need to run really old software that just won't run on a new OS.

There is no real advantage if the UCCNC is running on 64bit computers, because it runs as a 32 bit process anyways, so it does not really matter for the UCCNC, it runs the same way on 32 and 64 bit computers.
But for new computers there can be advantages to run them with 64bit Operating Systems because the computer architectures are mostly optimised for 64bit OSes,
so the computer itself can run faster and more efficient with 64 bit systems.
And one more thing to consider is that 32bit systems can't address more than 4Gigabytes of memory, because the address bus is not wide enough to address more than that as 2^32 is only 4.29 * 10^9,
so if you have more then 4GB memory installed in your computer then your PC still can't use more than 4GB if you have a 32bit OS installed, which is not a problem for the UCCNC,
but is a waste of money if you bought all that memory.

Be careful with Intel HD Graphics 4000 integrated video card and Windows 10! It worked fine for two years, but on 14 March MS released an update that killed my UCCNC. I'm just waiting for the update to repair it. (Can't install video card, it's a laptop. )

I have a few HP ProBook 6470b laptops with Intel HD Graphics 4000 integrated video card, but so far not seen any issues. OK, admittedly I have not updated the ones with UCCNC on them during March, so I don't know, but will try and update tonight to the latest W10 version and see what happens. Can always reverse if it doesn't work...

Though, after the 14th March Microsoft released two new updates (KB4015438 and KB4016635), one related to display (KB4016635). Have you installed those?

Yes, of course. I have a HP EliteBook 8440p with Intel HD, but not 4000 and it works fine. But the laptop which I use for work (and now I'm writing on it) is a Dell Vostro 3360 with that HD 4000, it's absolutely up to date and now it cannot run UCCNC. My luck is that the HP works fine, because that laptop is connected to my CNC. So I can do all the background work on my Dell and run code on the HP. But I do all developement on the Dell, so testing plugins and macros are now difficult, because I have to copy them first to the HP. And, by the way, the HP is not with me in work hours...

OK, I will test anyway and see if my HP is working or not. Hopefully (for me) it is a Dell thing... I only have HP laptops and one Dell desktop. ...though that is not without issues lately.

Yes, unfortunately Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB4013429 which was released a few weeks ago in March 2017 is buggy and makes some Intel HD graphics cards (So far HD 4000 is known by us to have problems with this update) to not work properly with OpenGL.
If you search the update number you can find forum posts with the same problem, e.g. on the Google Sketchup site and on other software sites which using OpenGL.
The exact problem is that the OpenGL drawing slows down the application to an unusable level.

Currently as far as we know there is no real workaround to resolve this other than to uninstall and disable the KB4013429 update.

Thanks for the information. I will test and get back with the results. If I'll get issues I'll also check with HP to see if there are any updates... maybe I'll start with HP and not Windows 10 update.
