Something strange has happened to my E-Stop input

Postby bhdavis » Tue May 28, 2024 1:51 pm

UCCNC
C76/C78 control

I was working on the probe 2 circuit when suddenly my RESET button tripped out and would not reset. After quite a bit of experimentation I found that if I removed the check mark for ACTIVE LOW on the E-STOP I/O setting then the problem went away. Everything worked as normal except:

1) When the RESET BUTTON is hit or tripped the servos do not power down as they did before this occurred.

2) The E-STOP LED on the DIAGNOSTIC page no longer lights up no matter what state the E-STOP circuit is in.

Other than that everything on the router seems to be working as it should.

There is a brake on my Z-axis servo but unplugging that servo completely has no effect on the problem.

I can live with this but it just seems strange as I wasn't doing anything to the E-STOP circuit. I do understand there is some relationship between the limit switches and the E-STOP but I haven't been able to see how that might be causing this issue. The two touch down probes on the machine (in series on PROBE 2 at PIN 10 - PORT 1) are working as they should including their built in low limit switches.

So bottom line it would seem that something might have happened to the probe circuit that is affecting the E-STOP circuitry. What though I can't figure out. My work around of unchecking ACTIVE LOW on the E-STOP is just a band aid fix. It makes the machine run but does not fix the underlying problem.

What I've just now thought to try is removing the PROBE 2 setting in the I/O settings and see what that does. I'll report back on that.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
BH

Okay. Done some more testing and can report the following about the problem:

1)I took the wires off of the C76 E-STOP pins and jumped the two pins together. This removed my complete E-STOP circuit and buttons from the equation. The DIAGNOSTICS E-STOP LED is still lit up unless I removed the check mark from AXIS LOW for the E-STOP so same as before.

2) I deactivated all three axes..........X, Y and Z. The problem persists.

3) I reactivated the three axes and just removed the pin and port assignments for them. The problem persists.

I've also learned that when everything is reconnected and all settings restored if I trip a x,y or z limit switch that axis will not move until I restart UCCNC.

I'm beginning to think something has failed on the C76 board. If so the question becomes can I move the E-STOP to another pin/port combination. Say output 24v to the E-STOP circuit and then return to Pin x on Port 2 ?

Thanks,
BH

Something is triggering a fault condition. There are 2 ways of understanding what is triggering the fault:
1. There is a plugin that you can enable that will tell you what triggered the fault condition. Check this video: https://youtu.be/zBwzooUAZqQ
2. When a fault condition is detected, an LED will light for 5 seconds next to the condition where the fault was detected indicating the cause of the fault.

You can also open a ticket and we will give you a hand with this: https://cnc4pc.com/contact

Thanks Arturo. Ticket submitted. Video was good. I'll take a closer look at the fault message in UCCNC tomorrow to see exactly what it is saying.

The only LED I see lighting up is the one next to the E-Stop. And as I said above I shorted the E-Stop inputs and that error remains. But I'll look more closely at that as well and report back.

I was working on the Z-axis on the router when this started so will also take a closer look there. Today was basically spent beating my head against the wall as I tried to sort out all the symptoms and unsuccessfully find some setting that would eliminate them other than unchecking ACTIVE LOW on the E-Stop configuration setting.
