Y Axis Racking

Is it possible to slave the Y and A axis together and also have a Y home limit switch along with a A limit switch at the same end as the Y home limit switch to square up the machine every time I home it? I am wondering if this will work in software. I did find a video of a guy using a cheap PLC and two relays to run the gantry until the Y and A hit their respective limit switches then send a signal from the PLC to the motion controller that Y has been homed. Hi BillCNC I'm assuming you have posted this in the CNCdrive forum as you are running UCCNC software. You do not tell us what controller you are using but does not matter UCCNC via limit switches allows homing to take place. I have both limit and homing proximity switches on my DIY machine and run both Y and A slaved together. This way with proximity switch on both the Y and A I'm able to square the gantry before I start machining to maintain accuracy. I also use the home position for both parking for the tool change and also touch off.
There are plenty of threads explaining how to set this up but first you need homing switches.

Thank you formantjim. I am using UCCNC and the AXBB-E motion controller. With the Y and A axis slaved I will place a homing switch on each, which is at the front of the machine towards me, to start. Then place two limit switches at the back of the machine for Y and A. In the homing order do I place the A Axis as the forth position or leave it blank and just have Z, X, and Y? Sorry for sounding like a newbie but I have not had a CNC since 2009 and then I was using Mach3.

Leave the A axis homing blank. As long as it's slaves to Y, it will home together with Y.
