UC300Eth problems, is it dead?

Postby 6of1 » Mon Nov 13, 2023 9:14 pm

I hope someone can help me out. I think my board is shot.

I have a UC3000eth connected with crossover cable to Win7 PC. I haven't used the machine in a while or nearly as much as id like to. Worked find about 6-7 months ago. I went to use it today and UCCNC just gives me demo mode. Went through all my network settings and everything looks good (matched to manual) but still fails validation and cant be found using UCxxx_Utility.exe. Scan finds no devices.

I pulled the crossover cable from the UC300 and I have Solid Green on the power led and Solid Green on the Left RJ45 Jack. Everything I have seen in trouble shooting videos shows that when the cable is unplugged I should get just a flashing green power LED and nothing else.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. super bummed out

Verify that there is proper 5Volts for the UC300ETH.
I mean verify the voltage level.

Also try to reset the device settings as described in the UC300ETH users manual.

I am getting 5.22v at the green plug. I think I already tried resetting device settings but will try it again.

Ok, I started on page 7/22 of the manual.
Checked "validate settings upon exit" and I get the [windows network diagnostic] "troubleshooting couldn't ID the problem"

when I get to page 14/22..
Scan finds nothing.

Oh, wait.. Do you want me to reset the board itself as shown in section 5.2.2 on page 16/22 ?
That I have not tried yet.. I assumed "Device Settings" where PC side.
Will i have to re-setup all my controls for the cnc after doing that?

Ok, I went ahead and reset the board using the instructions on page 16/22.

Now i have blinking green power LED and solid green LED on the RJ45 jack (with the crossover cable connected and disconnected)

also...
Ran though the setup on pages 7-14 and same results as earlier.
Checked "validate settings upon exit" and I get the [windows network diagnostic] "troubleshooting couldn't ID the problem"
UCxxx Scan finds nothing.

Only change I see after resetting the board itself is blinking power LED

Hi,

If the UCx00 utility tool does not finds the UC300ETH after reset then something is broken.
It could be the UC300ETH or the ethernet cable.
So, one more thing you can do is check the ethernet cable, try another cable.

Tried using my newer windows 10 laptop, same result.
Tested my original crossover cable with a tester and it looks good. Next step is pull out my cable tools and make another x-over, I guess.

I even tested the newer windows 10 laptop with a fresh new cat6 "straight" cable, same result. I'm pretty sure the laptop is new enough to support auto MDI-X.

The computers are connecting to the board, I think, lol. The laptop sees the connection when power is given to the UC300 and it disappears when power is removed. Also, when I go into cmd and "ping 10.10.10.10" it responds "4 sent, 4 received" but UCxxxUtilty.exe can't find it :? so confused

I uploaded a video of the light I get after a board reset without any cables plugged into the UC300, hope the video works.

I've tried everything I can think of, ordered a replacement UC300eth-5lpt and another Meanwell supply. The power supply I have, tested fine with meter but its a cheap backup to have.

Since I am getting lights on the jack even when no Ethernet is plugged in should I assume the ethernet chip is dead or the Jack?
Is there a possibility that its just the motherboard (bottom) that went bad?

I guess what I am getting at is:
Can this board be repaired or a replacement Motherboard (bottom) solve this? So I will have another backup to store with my smoothstepper lol. I dont want to just trash it. I would have installed the smoothstepper when this UC300 started acting up but enjoy UCCNC more then mach3.

Yes, we can attempt to repair it, but I if the ethernet LEDs are always on even when the board is not plugged into the PC then I think that the top UC300ETH module is dead and not the motherboard.
If you have both, then send them back to us together and then we will check both and repair them.
Email us and then I will give you the shipping address.
