UC400ETH + UCBB + Existing Machine's Interface...

Postby FerrumD » Wed Apr 05, 2023 5:42 am

Quick question:

I have my machine's existing interface (has a parallel port) connected to my UC400ETH and got that working.
I also have the additional UCBB breakout board.

now my machines' interface has an extension card that's used for the limit switches, sensor port and a few other things like a relay switch for the spindle, e-stop etc...

I wonder if it would be possible to still connect the UCBB to the UC400ETH on the secondary port, and use the BB along side with the stuff already in the machine.
It would make wiring in a few more things I want a bit easier...
or would the two conflict?

here's what's in my machines' "controller":

UCBB won't work with UC400 on a second port. The second port is setup as an input based LPT parallel. The second port on UC400 is output based.

You can only use the 1 output port of UCBB. To use UC400 port 2 you'll need a UCSB or another generic parallel board (IDC26 ported or using DB25 to IDC26 conversion cable) and use along side the UCBB.

Interesting: i had decided to just give it a try, having figured, i shouldn’t be breaking anything of it didn’t work.
So i wired it up like this:

Uc400eth
Port 1 lpt to the machines interface
Port 2 to the ucbb

I’ve then hooked up one of the limit switch pairs and my probe to the ucbb
And the rest on the machine’s “controller “

In UCCNC I’ve selected the X axis home/limit Switches pin 10 PORT 2 (ucbb)
The Y and Z on Port 1 (machine’s controller bb)

Probe on pin 12 PORT 2

And tested it: works like a charm
Zero problems

Soo at least in my case it seems to work well in tandem

Cramped but ok:

Well, your photo shows some small details. :) You have a UCSB not a UCBB. The UCSB has only one port and it's compatible with both of the ports on the UC400ETH.

Oh... that ;). my mistake then ...
I somehow was convinced I had the breakout board UCBB.... but alas, I guess I was wrong ;). lucky me in that case
