How is probing supposed to work with the new probe screen?

Postby Abakker » Tue Apr 04, 2023 2:53 am

I have a router with an ATC spindle, but the ATC isn't configured yet. I have 2 probes on the machine - a fixed tool setter, and a touch probe that goes in the spindle. I've got about 20 toolholder with tools. What I'd like to do is capture the tool length offset to the tool table, so that at least an M6 can jog to a fixed position and let me swap out the tools and then a G43H# would apply the offset.

What is puzzling me is that there is seemingly no way to capture the tool length offset to the tool table. I can use the fixed probe to capture the length of a tool.

Seemingly, based on the limited documentation, I can also simulate a manual tool change with a fixed height by setting the work height and the fixed probe location and then swapping tools (though I am afraid to try this given how unspecific the documentation is).

I can't figure out a way to just put in a tool, and record its offset relative to the spindle nose. even if I command the measure tool button, it zeroes, and then retracts so I can't easily record the true position of the tool without careful math involving the machine and work coordinates for the z height. The "retract" move from probing is always relative to where you started.

(also, for reasons unknown, the "probe" button on the home screen just crashes your tool through your tool setter at full rapid. WHY IS THIS BUTTON EVEN HERE?)

Am I missing something? It seems like the measure tool button should have an option to save to the tool table.
