3040 is the size of a Chinese made machine but it could be used for wood, aluminum and etc. Are you discussing the lightweight construction issues or controller? I am guessing Mach3 as the low cost machines from China seem to be using that. This Site is discussing a better alternative control system.

Yes CNC Zone is the place for those machines and All those beginner questions. Best place to start, read, read, and read some more all those beginner questions have already been asked.
