You don't use offsets, you use the offset settings on the axes configuration pages.
Can you provide some info on your machine, and exactly what you want it to do?

I apologize if these are silly questions, I just cant get my head round the offsets positions etc.
I have a Stepcraft M1000, I have been having some problems with the limit switches when reaching "home". The screws are not easy to get too, to readjust and deactivate the limit switches, so i thought if I can set the "home" position of the machine to be such that it stops just before the limit switch kicks in it would solve that problem.
Hope this helps.
Many thanks

True homing requires a sensor of some sort (mechanical switch, proximity switch, something) to tell the software when the home position has been reached. If you disable the homing input pin (assuming it's not shared with some other input that you still want enabled), then you can move the gantry by hand to the "home" position and UCCNC can use that as the home location. However, UCCNC will not be able to send the machine home again with the homing pin disabled. You'll have to move the gantry by hand every time, or use G code to move back to machine 0, 0, 0.

The Homing Backoff setting that Gerry mentioned still requires a working home sensor.

It sounds to me like you have a hardware problem that needs to be fixed, and you're not wanting/able to fix it. In my opinion, you need to figure out how to fix it.

OK, thanks Frank, you might be right. Will look into it, just don't have the time at the moment to take it apart so was looking for a solution in the mean time.
Thanks
