Moving to a new PC

Postby dynaflux » Mon Aug 08, 2022 5:29 pm

I've been running UCCNC for several years but now my PC is beyond repair and I just bought a new (old) one. I have the license key but I don't remember how I did the last install - I guess it would be just to install UCCNC which would be in demo mode and then enter the license key - or will I be told the license is used on another PC?

Should there be any other problems or something I must be aware of? I have saved the configuration file and guess there is a convenient way to import it or must I replace the file?

I like to fiddle around with computers but in this case I just want to get it up and running so I'm asking this just to save time I rather spend on maching.

The easiest way is to install any version to the new PC then empty the UCCNC directory manually. Now copy everything from the UCCNC directory on the old PC into this empty directory. You are ready with the exact same UCCNC. (Program version, settings, modifications etc. are all stored in the UCCNC directory. You only need to install first to have the sound working. Also copy your shortcuts if needed.)

Thanks, but I assume the license key is stored in there - or?

The license key is also stored in the UCCNC directory.

I copied all the files, both configuration file and directory. Two problems; when I chose my previous profile the old screen layout will be loaded. Is there any way to get the newer screen without doing a new configuration from scratch? And I'm still told I don't have any valid license and continues to run in demo mode.

Then you did not do what I wrote. I try to explain it again in more details.

New PC:
- Install UCCNC.
- Open File explorer, go into C:\UCCNC. Select all files (Ctrl+A), delete them.

Old PC:
- Open File explorer, go into C:\UCCNC. Select all files, copy.
- On a USB drive create a directory, go into it and paste.

New PC:
- In File explorer go to the USB drive into the directory where you pasted all the files.
- Select all, copy.
- Go into C:\UCCNC, paste.

Now you have all the files, including your license.

If you don't use the default profile then do the following:

Right-click on UCCNC.exe, select create shortcut on desktop. Go to your desktop, select the new shortcut, right-click, select properties. Click into the Target field, go to the end of the line (C:\UCCNC\UCCNC.exe) and write a space, "/p" (without quotes), space and the exact name of your profile. It will look like:

Code: Select all
C:\UCCNC\UCCNC.exe /p yourprofilename

If the name of your profile contains space(s) then quote its name like:

Code: Select all
C:\UCCNC\UCCNC.exe /p "your profile name"

Do not load another profile inside UCCNC unless you have 1.2114 or later installed.
