Analog output not working

Postby walt_cnc » Wed Jun 29, 2022 11:38 pm

My VFD uses 1-10 for spindle speed control so I connected to the analog out pin BUT cannot get the pin to show any voltage.
I searched all through this (and other ) forums (along with all available documents) to insure proper connections but nowhere are the needed settings for UCCNC detailed for this.
>> I did find PWM & Step configs BUT I need 1-10 volts...
On analog screen, I see fields for output var# but no explanation what is needed (or what it means).
My VFD is setup correctly as it worked with previous controller; The AXBB is just not sending out any voltage from the analog output pin...
Everything I found, specifies the connection info but nowhere are details on what to set in UCCNC.
Please detail what settings are needed.
Thank You.

You have to setup the PWM spindle mode (PWM min/max. and spindle speed min/max. etc) and you also have to attach the analog output channel to the spindle PWM.
You can do that on the I/O setup page with the Spindle PWM ->analog ch. setting.

I am sorry but this is not enough information...
<<You have to setup the PWM spindle mode (PWM min/max. and spindle speed min/max. etc) >>
I have the pin and port set to "1" but it is not evident what other fields & values are needed as they are not obvious from the screen...
AND I do have the "Spindle PWM -> analog" set to 1.
All my axis work BUT I still get no voltage from the analog out pin...

Try putting port and pin for spindle pwm at 0,0.
You are telling the axbb-e to use output pin 1 as a pwm so it will be sending a signal there (which is for when you're using a separate pwm to 0-10v converter board).
The analog is its own thing. So as long as no pin is assigned to it, just telling it to use 'analog1'' as pwm is all it needs.
If you get full voltage at startup and 0 volts at full speed, changing the active low state on pwm 'pin' still reverses it. All you are doing is diverting the signal to analog out rather than pin.

Same with the dir pin. If you want to use relays you assign 0,0 again. Then use the M3/M4 enable relays on the right hand side and assign the specific outputs you want to use to those instead of the dir port/pin.

well... thanks for the suggestions but I still have no success...
I am disappointed that this is taking so much effort and I really did not want to spend so much time "experimenting" with various settings.
There should be clear and straight-forward instructions to get this going.
>> I had to put it aside as I was getting too frustrated.
My previous setup was working but I was not happy with LinuxCNC and UCCNC seemed like a good alternative... but if I can't get my spindle to work, it is useless...
I have a PWM to voltage converter which I may try if I can't get this working.
NOT HAPPY

Strange that is. It's more or less the same control chip as the UC300eth just with a breakout board build in.
The 300 was pretty straightforward.
Maybe need a clear head and go again.

On the "IO Setup 1" page, have you set the "Spindle PWM -> Analog Ch." to "1"

That selects A01 analogue output on the AXBB. In the documentation this is mentioned elsewhere, and is not in the analog setup section. I Googled and found a thread from one and a half years ago where someone could not get their analogue output working with the AXBB and this setting was what he didn't know about.

I do find it strange that all the analogue settings are not all in one box on the screen. I also didn't notice any information explaining what to put for Port and Pin numbers when you are using the A01 output on the AXBB.

Perhaps the documentation needs amending with clearer instructions for this setup.

If you still can't get it going then it would be interesting to see if you can get it to work with mach3 demo. Just to test the axbb-e AO1 itself is working properly..

There's loads of info on page 4 and a bit on page 3 of this thread where another member couldn't get their axbb-e going:

viewtopic.php?f=22&t=3780&start=20

It's done using the uc300 but the fundamentals are basically the same and the axbb-e key bits are in there.
If it works then you know it's to do with uccnc config.

Finally, after much experimentation, it is working...
As for exactly how; it's basically a cross between between an elephant & a rhino... Ele-if-I-no...
Now for calibration... Oh Joy!

Are you saying it just started working without any changes to settings, etc. Did you do any of the settings mentioned above, and did the analogue out work after making those changes.

Surely after reading the posts here, you changed something and then it worked.

Perhaps you could help others in return by explaining what changes you made. Even just take screenshots of the spindle and output 1 pages so the analogue settings can be seen.
