mpg off and on

hello
i have a simple mpg pendant.
Off , X ,Y ,Z, A,B 1X 10X 100X ROTARY SWITCHES
The problem i have is how to make this work
I have to go into the pull out to turn on the mpg. Then the jogging will respond to the x - a switches and the increments
Also when I turn it to the off position ie no electrical contact it stayes on the last selection usually X.
Those are the two problems i have turning on and off. got to be an edit but I am not sure where
