Simple touch probe setup + AXBBe

Hi guys,
I have been trying to setup a simple touch probe much like what is shown in this youtube video. I bought the same style probe, but removed the led and resistor, and added a single wire.

From my understanding (and on from another thread on this site), I should connect the 24+v wire to the I3+ terminal, then the probe wire to I3- on the axbbe. Is this correct? Or do i need to add a -24v wire from my 24v power supply to the workpiece (either permanently or only when probing).

I wasn't sure if connecting the 24v- to my machine vice was safe to do or if it would cause issues elsewhere?

Also please let me know if the method (resistors and LED etc) used by metalmusings is a better way to go.
