Edit Screen - image size

Postby krsykes23 » Mon May 02, 2022 3:03 pm

I need a custom screen with a resolution of 1440 x 900 to match my touch screen that is connected to the CNC. I have created a simple background image for testing purposes, which is set to 1440 x 900 resolution. I have also created a copy of the default screenset to test with. I'm editing the screenset on a 29" monitor which has a resolution of 3440 x 1440, so when running UCCNC on the 29" PC (to edit the screenset), when I set the desired background image (1440 x 900) the display shows incorrectly.
In the screen editor, I change the Screen size (on the Screen tab) to 1440 x 900 and also the image height and width (on the Selection tab) to the same resolution, most of the elements on the right hand side and bottom of the display are not showing. In other words, when I change the 'Screen' size to 1440 x 900, it crops elements to the right and bottom.

I have tried for hours to see what I'm doing wrong but I have given up and hope that someone can help me!

With UCCNC running and the screen at the desired size, take a screen capture. In your image editing app, measure the size of the required background. That's the size you want.

Thanks for the reply.

But I don't understand ....I know the size required, which is 1440 x 900. Why do I need do a screenshot?

However...I have done that and strangely enough, it's 1439 x 899.

My mistake. I was thinking the Screen Size was the Window size.
Can you post your screen file and background image?

It looks like the issue might be related to the way UCCNC scales the image when you're working on a higher resolution monitor. Sometimes, even though you set the image to 1440x900, the software might adjust the display slightly to fit the screen.

As a tip, I've found that optimizing the image size before uploading can sometimes help avoid this kind of issue. Compressing images without losing quality can be a good way to ensure they display as expected, especially when you're dealing with different screen resolutions. You might want to check out tools that can help with image compression, like this jpeg compressor, for example, as they can help reduce any discrepancies caused by file size or resolution mismatches.

UCCNC is compressing the files before uploading it to the graphics card, so uncompressed images should not be a problem.
Ofcourse initial loading can be longer with large and uncompressed images, but it does not cause memory overload issues since the UCCNC scales and compresses the images to fit the screen.
