AXBB gone?

Postby Janosch » Fri Mar 26, 2021 1:11 pm

Hi!

I was playing around with my cnc when my AXBB suddenly lost connection with my PC.
I checked power supplies, cables, ethernet etc... but couldn't find any problems at all, so I decided to open up the AXBB and have a look inside...
I think at the 5V input, something burnt :'(

I don't know how, but it seems like something went wrong with my 5V power?
(I checked, my meanwell is still set to 4.9V...)

Any thoughts?
Thx

That IC is there to protect the board from reverse polarity connection of the 5V voltage and to protect from overcurrent.
The only thing what can damage that IC is overvoltage, if the input voltage is greater than about 6Volts then the IC can damage.
So, your powersupply definately has somekind of problem.
The good thing is that even if that IC damages from overvoltage it still protects the rest of the board circuit, it does not throughput the overvoltage to the board.
So, exchanging the IC is the solution or the IC could be bypassed with a piece of wire, but then there will be no more reverse polarity and overcurrent protection.

Ok, that's good news!
could you please give me the reference of that specific IC, so I can try to replace it?

It is an AP2401. And you could bridge it with bridging the thick wire going through from pins 2.3. to 6.7.

What do you mean by those ? Connect 2 to 6 and 3 to 7 ? or pull that IC first ? Just for future reference if I have the same problem.

If I read the datasheet correctly, I think you have to short the pins 2 and 3 (inputs) together as well as the pins 6 and 7 (outputs) anyways.
So, if you want to bypass the IC, you just connect those 4 pins together.

Yes, you connect the inputs and outputs together, this means you connect the mentioned 4 pins all together.
