X and Z moves not executed

Postby joey81 » Tue Apr 13, 2021 11:28 am

Hi!

Attached is the 3D roughing code and the profile of the machine I was running it on.

X going left moves and Z going up moves below Y=0 are being ignored by UCCNC.

I practically ripped the machine apart trying to find the root cause. Changed cables. Disconnected everything except Z axis stepper. It still happens.

Found out that disabling the spindle relay control makes the problem go away. BoB is now suspect Swapped in a BoB with only Z step/dir connected. Still happens.
Changed the Z step/dir IO pins. Still happens.

Then I found a suitable workaround: change Y and B step pins to active low.

I use UC400ETH, v1.2111.

Also happens with an earlier release, forgot exactly what version.

I highly doubt that it is a bug in the software.
A bug like this would be already recognised by many users.
And if changing the step pin to active low fixes the issue means that you had your step pin active polarity wrong and that was the cause for the problem.
In other words you did not find a "workaround", but you fixed your incorrect setting.
Step active edge to be set correctly is incorrect because if it is not correct then the direction signal is generated on the wrong edge of the step signal, not on the edge when the drive reads the signal and this usually causes problems, like lost steps, position errors, stall motors.
So, basically you found an incorrect thing in your machine configuration and not a software bug.

You may have misread the description of the problem.

The change in the pin polarity in the Y and B axes "fixed" the problem I am experiencing with the X and Z axes.
Also, disabling the spindle relay control "fixes" the problem.

If the settings of one axis affects the behaviour of another axis is a feature and not a bug, then we have a much bigger problem.

I'm an embedded software developer, too. I've seen and fixed some very strange bugs that show up only when the planets are in perfect alignment. :D

OK, then try to run the same test and then also test it with changing those settings back. Just to see if maybe something else changed in the meantime in your system.
I doubt that there is a bug like this, because there are too many users using the software daily and this kind of problem sounds so serious that other users were very likely already report it, especially because the software version you using is out for about a year now.
But please let me know after you rechecked the problem and if you still experiencing it then we will test it too.

Yes, I did change the pin polarity a few times to confirm what I am seeing, before reporting it here.

I've just tested your profile without any change with a UC400ETH and the g-code you uploaded and it works fine. What kind of BoB do you use? Can you upload a photo and/or a pdf (or a link to the pdf)? Maybe, the BoB does something that it should not do.
