UCBB - PWM

Postby George M » Fri Apr 02, 2021 2:26 pm

I just received a UCBB to replace a couple of cheap BOB that were giving me problems. I would like to know - Can any or the Output pins be used for PWM?
I'm looking specifically to control my laser, not a spindle.
thanks
Thank you

Yes, the UCBB has very fast optocouplers on all outputs, all of its outputs are electrically the same, so all can output PWM nicely.

As a follow up to my question.
My laser has three wires. V+, V-, Control
I hook the V+ and V- to my 12 v power supply.
For the Control I will use Chanel 1 O1 (or Port 2 Pin1)

Do I just connect to O1+ ?
Or do I need to supply O1+ with 12v and connect control wire to O1- ?
Thank you

I cant find how to edit my last post so I will try to clarify here.

I see I was confused about there being a + and - Output pins as that is only on the Input pins. I see that there are only a single Output pin.
Thank you

When you turn on an output it connects to ground (0V). If the input pin of your laser is pulled high then you're ready. If not then you have to pull up the output to 5V with a resistor. Also, you have to connect the nagative of the laser power suppli to 0V. If the laser is turned on when you power up then set the laser output to active low.

So I have everything working with the UCBB except the laser.

I had just finished with an etching job on my printer so I know the laser it good.
From the laser I connect the V+ to 12V on the power supply
I connect the V- to 0V on the UCBB
I connect the laser control to O14 (port 1 pin 14)
I have the laser relay set to O1 (port 1 Pin 1)
I have the laser plugin loaded
I have NO pins assigned on the Spindle Page for PWM
I have the laser pin on I/O page set to port1 pin14

When I turn it on I hear the fan of the laser fan come on.
When I click on M3 I see the led at O1 come on
when I input M10Q255 I see the led on pin 14 come on BUT the laser does not come on.

I can see the intensity of the led on pin 14 change with different Qxxx.

Ideas?
Thank you

You have the laser power supply+ to laser V+, but is the power supply- connected to V- and 0V?
Did you try a pull-up resistor as I wrote?
How do you control the O1 laser relay?
If you have a voltage meter, what can you measure between 0V and O14 while the laser relay is on and O14 is off?

First off thank you for taking to time to look into this for me.

Laser V- is connected to supply V- and to 24V-
I did not try the resistor yet as I dont know what size resistor to use.
I use the spindle on off on the run page to turn on the relay. I can see the led light up when I do this. I do not have anything actually connected to that pin as the power to the laser is controlled with a switch.
With relay on (pin1) and output off (pin14) I get 0 volts.
With relay on (pin1) and output on (pin14) I get 0 volts.
Here is a crude diagram
