Ideal UCCNC PC?

Postby Parkgrr » Mon Dec 07, 2020 9:21 am

Hi folks! I'm nearing my first start-up of a large (12x6) multicam retrofit project and I wanted to pop in for some advice.

I plan to be running *enormous* amounts of code at one time and want to make sure I set myself up for success as much as possible. For extremely long cuts (think days not hours) what would you recommend I spring on as far as a PC brain goes? If money is no object what specs would you place the most value in? How far would you max them out? Any specs that likely are not important?

Thanks tons!

I'd get a mini PC with an i7 and 16-32Gb of RAM.
Video is important, but the integrated video in the i7 is more than enough.

Thanks very much for the tip, this got me in the right direction. I looked at some 2012 mac minis (seemed to be one of the more affordable ways to get an i7 and some chunky RAM) but ended up getting an Alienware Alpha R2 with an i7 and dedicated GPU for some significant VRAM headroom (4 gigs) rather than the 512 mb VRAM or so of the i7. They're also very small, no optical drive, no other chunky components, expandable everything. Bought 2 for $250 ea. I don't expect to run into limitations with large file sizes but if I do I will post here (for posterity).

Thank you
