AXBB vs UCBB

Postby Gil » Wed Oct 21, 2020 1:39 am

Hey everyone, I’m planning my CNC Build and I’m trying to work out the control electronics. I’ve pretty much settled on UCCNC for the software, so the boards are next up. I’m between the AXBB and the UC300ETH-5LPT with the UCBB BoB.

I am having trouble deciding between the two. For the most part, it seems like the UCBB setup is the same but with more IO. From what I can tell the only thing the UCBB is missing is the isolated charge pump output (which I read can still be setup). Am I missing anything? Are there any other functional advantages of getting the AXBB other than it being an AIO solution?

Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome,

Your observations are all correct. Those are the differences between the 2 solutions.
To add one more is that the AXBB-E is smaller in footprint, more compact than the UC300ETH-5LPT + UCBB, because it is on a single board, but the UC300ETH-5LPT has much more I/Os and you could connect even 2pcs of UCBB boards. And yes, the AXBB-E has a built in charge pump sense circuit while the other solution does not have that.

AXBB-E also has an analog speed control circuit.
The UC300ETH has a separate port with analog inputs and outputs.

Thanks for the fast replies.

Can you elaborate on the difference between a speed control circuit and analog inputs and outputs? I thought the speed control was carried out through the analog I/O. The UC300ETh looked to have the upper hand here with 2 Analog I/Os each while the AXBB has 2 outputs and 1 input.

Both has analog output(s). The AXBB-E has one 0-10Volts and the UC300ETH-5LPT has 2pcs 0-10V analog output.
For spindle speed control you only need 1 analog 0-10V output so both controllers are suitable for that.
And both controllers have 2 analog inputs for SRO, FRO etc. control with externally connected potentiometers.
