Multiple licenses and installs

Postby Delco » Fri Sep 25, 2020 4:21 am

Question for those that have multiple instances of UCCNC machines. Is it possible to have one master UCCNC directory with all profiles of all your machines and licenses in so that no matter which machine I hook up to with the laptop it sees the licence and then I just need to select the profile I want to use. I mostly want it so that if I edit a profile ,macro or screen etc then I dont need to try and synch multiple install directories . Most machines use the same profile/macro /screen set but different license files. When I hook up the laptop to them I need to find which machine license to copy over which is pretty frustrating.

It has been suggested to put all the licence files in the one txt file ?

Yes, you can do any number of UCCNC installations to different folders on the same computer.
Yes, you can install any number of UCCNC license keys to a UCCNC folder.
Yes, if you have multiple licenses then the software will work with all motion controllers you have licenses installed for, you can use any of them any time.
The only issue will be is that if multiple license keys are installed with multiple motion controllers connected the same time then the motion controller selection window will pop up on software startup, because the software cannot decide which motion controller to connect to, because you have licenses installed for both of them.
So, you always have to select the controller on the software startup as long as multiple license keys with multiple motion controllers are connected.
The solution to overcome this is to create separate profiles with separate shortcut icons. Then edit the shortcut icon, right click on it and edit and in the target field add the /s serialnumber, for example for motion controller with serial number CD0001 add /s CD0001
This forces the software to connect to the motion controller with serial number CD0001, no matter if other motion controllers with license keys installed are available.
So, then you no more have to select the motion controller or worry that a profile connects to the wrong motion controller.

Only ever connect to one machine at a time. I have been renaming the licence to UCCNClicense.txt , should I just leave them all as UCCNClicense_CD1ZZ3.txt etc in the root install folder :)

There is no need to rename the license key files.
