0-10v analog out for Spindle - UC300ETH-5LPT

Postby MattTheNoob » Sat Jul 04, 2020 12:19 am

It seems like a basic question, but I promise I'm not being lazy... I've done a lot of searching in existing posts but can't connect the dots.

I'm setting up my spindle which takes a 0-10v speed reference (not pwm). I understand that I can assign a VAR# to that analog output (Pins 6 and 14 on the IDC16). I can't figure out how to link that to the "speed output" of UCCNC. Like if the G code says S4000, how do I link that to my VAR?

If anyone can take a few minutes to point me to an example or explain the basic steps I'm missing, it would be greatly appreciated.

I am pretty comfortable writing and editing macros... not a pro, but pretty ok.

Thanks, everyone.

In the I/O setup there is a setting "Spindle PWM-> analog ch." with that you can attach the spindle speed to an analog output channel.
You then setup the PWM spindle settings in the spindle setup and the analog channel will correcpod to those settings and the programmed S parameter.

Ha! That's easy. I was thrown off by the PWM stuff.
I'll go give it a shot.

That works! Thanks for the help!

For anyone else walking the same path as me, Pin 6 is + and Pin 14 is -.
Also the analog output goes to zero when the spindle is off.

(Woohoo! With this I might be running my machine before the end of the weekend!!!)

It sort of works... I actually had it wired wrong when I first claimed success, but now having corrected the wiring, checking and rechecking that I'm measuring the right pins here's what i'm seeing. I'm going from the pinout in the manual (attached). In all cases below, the positive signal follows the speed command perfectly.

With the Spindle PWM -> Analog channel 1, I get positive voltage (following the speed command) on both 6 and 14.
With the Spindle PWM -> Analog channel 2, I get positive voltage (following the speed command) on both 7 and 15.

I'm thinking now that the analog output isn't between 6 and 14 as I stated in my post above, but between Pins 6 and 5(ground), or an identical signal between 14 and 5.

I'm throwing this out just as a check, and to make sure nobody is lead down the wrong path by my statement in the above.

Pins 6. and 14. are the same Voltage potential. Both are analog output 1.
All inputs and all outputs in the analog port are connected to not only one, but to two pins.

Yes, the Voltages are referenced to the ground pins in the analog port.

What PWM controller you used ? Or you used VFD ?

No PWM controller. 0-10v going straight to a vfd.

Hi All,

I am trying to wire a common Huanyang VFD 2.2KW to UC300ETH-5LPT and this thread seems to be the most appropriate. I am unsure if the OP's spindle is of a similar configuration.

I'm in the middle of laying out my control box. I purchased a UC300ETH+UCBB+UCCNC bundle and I am trying to plan out what wires I need where. As I understand it the UCBB has no analog in or out and I would have to connect the spindle's 0-10V directly to the UC300ETH analog pins. But there is also a relay involved to enable the spindle which I think I could connect to one of the UCBB's outputs.

So even though the UC300ETH is being fed 5V it can interface 0-10V on the analog pins? Also by my count there are 4 wires needed from the controller to the inverter

For Speed control UC300ETH analog to Spindle AI and common

1. 0-10V
2. Ground

For the enable forward relay

1. V+
2. Ground

Sorry if my terminology is not accurate.

I'm not familiar with the drive you have, but your wires seem about right. You'll have to tie the signal ground or common together between the uc and drive. That way 10v at one end will be 10v at the other. I purchased an IDC cable to connect to the UC300 port with the analog sigs and just spliced wires together.
I assume your drive requires a relay contact to make it run. If so, you can activate a relay with any of the digital outputs and use the n/o contact to start your drive.
