UCCNC compatible controller

Postby mr_cg » Sun Nov 17, 2019 9:21 pm

I plan to buy new CNC machine and would like to keep UCCNC because i am very happy with it.
Which CNC controllers are recommended for UCCNC with UC100 connection?
I would need CNC controller supporting ... X, Y, Z, A with NEMA 23 stepper and TTL for laser.
Best would be complete set or already fully assembled controller.

Thanks

Any CNC controller will work which is LPT (printer) port compatible.

This really depends on your motor type and current requirements.

Althought the Gecko G540 is a nice choice. I have several. They're also handy when building test benches and one-off machines.

Four axis, 3.5A max, 50V max.

Two outputs, four inputs, plus E-stop.

They also include a VFD/Spindle control.

They have an LPT-style connector on them which the UCCNC UC-100 plugs into (with the aid of a gender-changer).

I was hoping there are some recommended ready to use CNC controller available for which default UCCNC config file is provided.
Sure it needs to be adapet to used NEMA stepper and size of the CNC machine but functions like probe, end stops, TTL output and emergency switch could be already pre-configured.

That's a little hard to do for a manufacturer unless they are targeting a specific machine.

Some people use 3 limit switches per axis (ends plus home). Some people use 2, and some use only 1.

The NEMA ratings of the motors has nothing to do with it -- it's just a voltage and current requirement. For example, the G540 has a max of 50V and 3.5A per axis. Many stepper motors are available in that range.

The size of the motors is also dependent upon the machine itself and the power needed to move the various joints.

TTL outputs are very configuration-specific.

There are several probes and probe types. The software must be configured to accept the one you choose.

Drivers such as the G540 do include a specific E-stop input.

Based on what you appear to want, a full equipment package would suit you better. Look into Candcnc controls which are Linux based.

UCCNC requires you to be able to configure your own I/O, settings, etc to suit the equipment you are supplying. A "default" config file would have to be for a default equipment setup, and what would that be ? You would have to build you hardware setup to suit the default config. Surely it's easier to modify UCCNC settings to suit your choice of hardware.
