You should not do that, because then you would break the isolation barrier of the UCBB breakout board.
You should use a separate 5V and 24V power supply so they can be isolated/floating to eachother on the non isolated/isolated sides.

You should not do that either, because then you creating a common ground of the computer and the UC300ETH which can cause noise problems.

Fair enough. I haven't seen a problem (yet), but I'm getting ready to re-arrange the furniture, and I will add a separate 5V supply for the UC300ETH.

In order not to create new topics, ask a question in this.
(UCBB dual port breakout board.
16 outputs and 18 inputs.
All I/Os optical isolated with high speed 10Mbit/sec optocouplers.)
In modern drivers, the inputs are optically isolated. With double optical isolator, it can be difficult for drivers to work.
At the entrance, optical asolation agrees need.
And why is it for the exit, a mystery to me.
It is a pity that there is no circuit on the board.
I apologize for my English. ;)
I use Google Translator.

I don't understand your issue with the isolation?! Please explain what is exactly your problem with it?
