Screenset, embed camera / video display

Postby Robertspark » Tue Nov 29, 2016 10:32 pm

I have a potential customer asking about the possibility to embed a camera display within uccnc screenset?

The reason why the ask is because they wish to have a camera installed on the carriage which will be in a confined space.

This will allow the operator to jog the tool to the start location (no camera probing or tracing etc, just a remote operator display)

Thanks as always

Hi Rob,

Embedding a camera display would be only possible if we will create a control type which accepts a camera image,
I mean creating a control type like the Fields, the LEDs, the buttons, so we should create a camera object for the screen and screen designer and implement the video stream reading, converting it to images and upload the images to video memory and display them with OpenGL to make that work.
This would be sure lots of work and would require a careful thinkthrough first.

For now there is a webcamera plugin which can show webcamera video, but it is in a plugin window, not embedded into the screen.

Balazs,

Thanks very much for the reply.

Yes, the web camera plugin window is similar to how it works with mach3 (which is the preferred choice for the client... Hence I thought I'd ask)

Basically they have asked for a screenset with a space for the webcam plugin window to be positioned to one side, hence I thought I'd ask if it was possible to embed it directly.... No need for the floating window...

Thanks very much, this is just a one off application, I would not spend any time on it as there are other things that would be of wider benefit to more users.

Tig welder project, yes working on it ( it's actually not that complicated what he's asking for), but he's keen on mach3 with the Chinese xhc usb controller he has bought already.

The. Cnc software is not doing the welding, just one movement, based upon an indexing pulse (well that may be the problem in mach3)....
