All depends what you want the finished article to look like

I have been doing a bit of research and have found this,
https://www.siliconcraft.net/newstore/i ... b5d93a068a
which I think will be very easy to implement via modbus master and be fairly cost effective and dead quick.

The 7 segment lcd's look very cool though and getting it all to work via Arduino and Modbus would, for me, be another module completed at the the University of Life! I have an arduino Mega sitting doing nothing and it might be enough to run 3 seven digit units....

Decisions, decisions!

I started working on a modbus/arduino project to show DROs, status and errors on a 12864 GLCD but abandoned the project due to the fact that my PC screen is now right next to the machine. I am now working on lighting that is controlled by the state of the machine (White when idle, red when error, smart pixel strip LEDs following the axis movements. A bit of dun. Modbus is definitely the way to do. 5 minutes on basic UCCNC modbus macro will get the data out. The Arduino side is where the fun is.
