CAM - Sample DXF?

Postby j1sys » Fri Dec 14, 2018 10:09 pm

I'm trying to test/use the CAM function. I've searched forum for CAM or DXF and found nothing. Does anyone have any hints to its use? can anyone post a sample DXF that works. I'm using Rhino 3D to generate a simple rectangular cutout. not getting any results.

I've found that it's very picky in regards to the .dxf format, and had trouble getting a .dxf that would work, so I gave up on it fairly quickly.

Yes, the CAM module is very limited, because it can't read nurbs and splines, it can only read lines, polylines and arcs at the moment as described in the UCCAM manual.
If the objects are put together from nurbs and splines then they are ignored.

This simple file won't even load this simple .dxf, with a polyline and circle.
It's a version 12 .dxf from AutoCAD. This should be able to be opened in any CAM program, as Autodesk defines the .dxf standard.

Thanx. I'll RTFM. I had looked for it online and didn't find it at first.

The problems discussed are the reason for my request: can someone send a simple DXF that DOES work with UCCAM. Then I can separate my problems into my DXF output from Rhino vs. my understanding of the module.

I tried various .dxf files from AutoCAD and Aspire, and I can't get any to load.

For example the attached file loads.

There was a software which we have used to just load the dxf and save it and it always saved with the proper formats for the UCCNC no matter if the original file was created with Autocad different versions,
but I just can't remember the name of that CAD software now, it was a long time ago and I forgot it's name. :(

Hi Gerry, UCCAM isn't as limited as many may think, problem is it won't open a AC DXF R12(your test sample) but AC 2000+ DXF versions it opens no problem. If you have multiple entities in different layers UCCAM will give you a error though. :( . Aspire exports R12 .
