uccnc 400eth with wlan stick

hello and best wishes for 2019,

i just configured a win7 computer. the eth400 is linked to the network card with a crossover cable and all works, i get connection.
because i want to get the gcode from my nas i also connected a wlan stick from tp-link. with that active, i get problems with the connection of the eth400.

is there an easy fix to that?

or do i have to put a switch in between my router and the cnc computer? would i connect the input of the swith to the router and connect both the eth400 and the cnc computer to the output of the switch? the manual then says i would have to set up the network a little different.

If the direct LAN with the UC400 and the WLAN is in the same network then it can cause problems. (Not phisically, but in the same logical network, e.g. both are in 192.168.0.xxx) Otherwise it should work. Also, if the LAN card is dedicated to the UC400 then you don't need to set the default gateway on the LAN card.

If your network settings are good then it must work. I use the same: wifi to internet and direct LAN to the UC400 or UC300.

Multiple Network Connections at the Same Time on Windows

In my scenario I have one Wireless connection for my Internet and one LAN connection to a small private network of my own with my NAS, PS3 and TV and I want to have them both at the same time. It was a major pain to get this setup working on Windows. When I had both connections enabled my Internet wasn’t working because Windows was routing through the LAN connection even though the Wireless connection had a higher priority set in Network Connections –> Advanced menu –> Advanced settings.

The solution is to go into the Properties of each connection (right click on it) –> select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) –> click Properties -> click Advanced –> uncheck Automatic metric in the bottom and set a number between 1 and 9999 where the smaller the number the higher the connection priority. I have set my Wireless Internet connection to 1 and my LAN connection to 9999 and that works.

I hope this post will save someone else’s precious time in the future.

edit to the above post. i tried like 20 times to open the programm and maybe 4 times it denied because of lost connection. so that solution posted does not do the job.

Have you setup the IP address for the UC400ETH connection as described in the manual?

Does the UCxxx_utility see the controller? What are the settings in the UC400? If your wifi is not in the 10.10.10 network and the UC400 is configured good then it should work. The default gateway plays only when the searched IP is not in any of the configured networks.

yes the ucxxx_utility sees the controller. the scan shows the following:

the ip adress ist 10.10.10.11,
subnet mask is 255.255.255.0
gateway is 10.10.10.0

what i just found out is that the "validate settings upon exit" in the ipv4 properties is not possible to save the option as checked. when i reopen that tab it is unchecked again.

in the ipv4 properties of the wlan stick i tried the following:
fixed ip adress 192.168.0.20
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
standard gateway left empty

for the dns server adress i put in a fantasy number 223.111.111.111 because i dont want this computer to connect to the internet, just to the nas storage.

the machine is now running, all axis and homeswitches and so on work.

unfortunately the connection to the eth400 is still not reliable. even with the wlan adapter removed and deactivated it sometimes gives errors. this afternoon i was testing. i opened the programm like 25 times it was fine. later on the connection was not reliable again.

i was wandering if it could be a driver issue from the ethernet card. it is a Intel® PRO/1000 GT Desktop-Adapter. windows 7 has a driver, device manager is okay. onboard lan is deactivated in the bios.

or could it be a faulty eth400? i bought it used out of the german cnc forum.

It can be that your computer has a problem. Can you try with a different computer too?

Also check the Statistics window on the profiles page in the UCCNC.
Check the latency graph in the statistics, it should not go up to the maximum 20msec, if it does then your computer is not powerful enough for the task or it's graphics card has poor performance or the graphics drivers are not installed for the graphics card, so again the card has poor performance, because the drivers are not installed and Windows is using an unoptimal default drivers which makes the card to perform slowly and it eats up the power of the CPU and RAM too.
So, make sure that you have installed the proper drivers for your graphics card.
