General Settings

I am still running mach3 using a uc400eth controller, to be honest I have never had a problem with mach3 which is why I am still using it but have read that it is possible to decrease machining times with some of the functions a more up to date control system has & that is never a bad thing :D
Just wondering what would be a good starting point for tuning a machine when it comes to things like CV settings & look ahead, look ahead in particular because from some of the stuff I have watched they say there is a loss of accuracy if the look ahead is set high & the default is 300 lines. I know not to believe a lot of what I see on places like youtube though so that could be complete rubbish :D
Other thing is the use of additional hardware that was purchased to run under mach3, I have a Chinese spindle/vfd, a wireless pendant (HB04 I think) & a wireless tool height setter (DT02) which I would like to be able to continue using. Are there plugins available for these that people are using without problems ?

Is there a way to use a profile other than the default profile without having a short cut on the desktop ? If there is but it involves writing code then that isn't something I would be comfortable doing.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The issue with the Mach3 trajectory planner is that it randomly overrides your acceleration settings especially when deccelerating.
The problem with this is that you have to detune your acceleration parameter to make your axes run safely when this override happens,
so you end up with a slower decceleration than what your axes could physically handle.
The random over accel/deccel also causes the machine to jerk in corners more than it should.
You can't resolve this with any high look ahead lines count.
The other issue is that Mach3 don't let you define tolerances, so you can only guess about how much error it will make on the path when in G64 constant velocity mode.

The UCCNC works different, first it does not have this over accel/deccel problem and second it has path deviation control and with that you can set your tolerances in distance units.

We have a plugin for the HB04 pendant. The plugin installs with the UCCNC and you can enable it in the Configuration/General settings/Configure plugins button.

I did not see this DT02 tool setter yet, but now googling on it as I see it has a receiver which gives a digital probe active signal, so for that you do not need a plugin,
but you can connect that signal to an input of the motion controller and configure it as probe input.

Is there a way to use a profile other than the default profile without having a short cut on the desktop ? If there is but it involves writing code then that isn't something I would be comfortable doing.

I'm not sure I understand this question.

I downloaded the uccnc software & installed it on a spare computer, I then added my mach3 xml file to the list of available profiles within the software. I would like the software to start up with this profile rather than starting the software & then selecting the mach3 profile.
The only thing I can see in the manual is how to create a shortcut on your desktop which will start the software using that particular profile. Not being a fan of having shortcuts on my desktop if I can help it I was wondering if there was another way ??

Just create a shortcut for the pro file you want to use and delete the default if you only want 1 shortcut on desktop .

A shortcut is exactly what it is... and if deleted won't delete anything in your UCCNC file folder.

You can also run the software from command line using the appropriate command line arguments to start a profile.
And you can place a shortcut icon anywhere, no need for it to be on the desktop, you can even place it to the UCCNC directory or to any directories you want.
