UCR201 Issues: connection failures and random moves

Postby dcowden » Fri Jan 10, 2025 5:50 pm

Hi there!
I got a brand new UCR201 for my UCCNC-controller machine for Christmas! I am having lots of problems with it-- I need help.

Details:
UCCNC controller
UCR201, with wireless pendant ( usb stick serial number B809FF )
Fresh batteries in the UCTR201
United States, operating on channel 1

I have two problems, and I think they both may be related.

(1) During using velocity or step mode ( either), occasionally, and jogging any axis, the machine will start moving in a random direction.

(1a) the estop button on the UCR201 doesnt always work-- i need to do a physical ( all motors estop)-- the estop on the UCTR201 does not work. This is VERY dangerous since i'm physically not right near the machine physical estop ( obviously, since i'm using a pendant)

(2) if i get more than 10 feet away from the USB stick, i sometimes get "lost connection to controller, which will intermittently happen.
(2a) doesnt appear to happen within 4 feet
(2b) Nothing in between the devices (clear line of sight)

The range issue i feel like is solvable, but the random movements are very scary-- the estop on the UC201 should work reliably to stop motion, but it doesnt!

(a) looked for upgraded version of the CNCdrive UCR201 plugin-- I have the latest version
(b) restarted the computer and UCCNC several times. This behavior persists consistently over several restarts
(c) tried 3 different channels. same results on any of the three ( i didnt try all)
(d) tried going back to my xbox controller. I have zero problems with it

Can you help? This controller is really unusable-- it doesnt have long enough wireless range, and of course random movements isn't really acceptable either.

I'm pretty disappointed. We got the UCR201 with the idea that it would be the highest quality solution, since its designed for UCCNC by cncdrive
I feared a wireless pendant because I knew that it would not be possible to hard-wire it into the 24V estop circuit where I can guarantee that estop will work. It appears that fear is presenting to be true.

Is there a wired version of the pendant I can exchange this for?

Can you help? Thank you in advance!

Per the thread mentioned, I found my way to UCCNC version 1.2117, and upgraded.
This does appear to have solved my issues-- though Its a little early to tell for sure.

I'll report back here if i see the issues after the 1.2117 upgrade.
