I’ve read a good amount of pros and cons on the subject, but was wondering what general consensus is here about best practice with an AXBBE.

This article sums up what I’ve read elsewhere.
https://control.com/technical-articles/ ... er-supply/@CNCDrives what is the official guidance on grounding negative of DC power supplies connected to an AXBB-E?

Ino ur installations we never grounded the negative of the DC powersupply.
Furthermore there are 2 powersupplies, one 5V and one 24V, if you ground both then you bypassing the optoisolators which is not good.
So, even if you ground a powersupply DC rail you should do it with only one of them.
But again, it is unnessessary in my opinion and we never did it in our installations.
