modbus returns "timeout" on function loop

The Modbus plugin loops fine with "connection OK" but when I define a function I always get a "operation has timed out... Loop Waiting"
Suggestions?

send or receive the correct expected data to the correct address and it works fine
correct baud rate and parity set?
the connection ok is only showing the port is working.
note whether address is in hex or decimal and use hex converter to give correct entry. every device is different.

Baud rates and stops bits match; as you mentioned, I suspected that I need the correct addresses to set the VFD parameters, but the manual is useless in their explanation.
I'm trying to control spindle speed (with speed feedback) and I scoured the boards but could not find the exact settings needed for the Huanyang VFD.
I did find a macro and will try that next.

which vfd are you using? there is a full plugin for the older models and another for the gt series.
i used the first of the gt series and helped test the plugin functions which worked perfectly- but
i had to cross wire where the switch should have been inside the vfd.
