When I do a bit change the bit drags agross the work piece.

When I do a bit change the bit drags agross the work piece.

Postby BillR94 » Fri Jul 17, 2020 12:08 am

During any operation that requires a bit change, the Z axis does NOT raise after changing the bit thus the bit drags across the work piece to it's starting point. This scratches the stock top badly.
When the operation starts using the first bit, the Z axis raises about 5mm then moves to the starting point and begins the milling operation.

After changing to the second bit, the Z axis DOES NOT raise that 5mm. Is there a setting within UCCNC that I can setup to raise the Z after tool changes?
How and where can I do that?

Thank you
Bill

Which software are you using to generaate your g code. If you have a long cutter your safe z setting in the material setting maybe too high.
Cheers.

Your g-code should be lifting the tool after the tool change, before any other movement takes place.

I use Fusion 360.
I agree jer21, it should lift the Z before any movement after the tool change but it does not on the second tool only. The initial tool DOES lift as it is supposed to.
I admit I know very little about g-code so maybe you can tell me where the issue is.

Here is the first few lines of the start G-code for the first tool. (This tool retracts as it should)

(2D CONTOUR2)
M5
T2 M6
S5000 M3
G54
G0 X205.325 Y254.906
G43 Z5. H2
Z1.
G1 Z-2.371 F800.
X205.328 Z-2.378 F2000.

This is the g-code for the second tool. (It does NOT retract)

(2D POCKET1)
M5
M1
T3 M6
S5000 M3
G54
G0 X158.67 Y324.822
G43 Z10. H3
Z5.
G1 Z2.82 F2000.
X158.667 Y324.846 Z2.697 F800.
X158.656 Y324.915 Z2.593

What post are you using? The line after the G54 should not be there.

Is this what you mean???
You said that the line should not be there. Are you referring to the first tool or the second tool?
