Configuring UCCNC for Fusion360 (mm scale)

Postby LBayZG » Mon Mar 19, 2018 5:47 pm

Sort of a newbie question here. Pardon the noise.

I am in the process of converting my mill (a Sherline CNC) to metric.

Fusion360 offers several modes for its 'scale'. 'Inch' or 'mm'.

Question: Should I then configure my UCCNC for units equivalent to 'mm' ? Or perhaps I should configure it for 'cm' ?

I'm just not sure what Fusion360's POST puts out.

I guess I am confused because I feel that Centimetres are a more 'natural' measure than mm.
They feel more like the 'inches' I am used to.

Never mind, everyone.

I was getting confused by the 'default' alternative units being offered to me by Fusion360. For several months, I only remember seeing 'in' and 'mm' units.

But, in fact, I have found that there are several different metric 'units available. Centimetres being one of them.

I can (and will) configure the 'units' on my mill and Fusion360 to be 'Centimetres'.

I think that the vast majority (99%?) use mm's.

IMHO, you'd better use mm. I never saw any program using other than mm or inch.

Question...
If UCCNC is "unitless" and steps per unit are correct, and CV settings are divided by 10 and a any macros have the motion lengths adjusted, why wont it work?

Nobody said it wouldn't work.
Just not advisable.

Lots of little things can come back to haunt you.
Like, will Fusion 320 output feedrates in cm/min?
Not that it matters, but you just better have a good handle on everything when you do something in a way that nobody else does.

From the UCCNC side it will work, but only bakers measure in centimeters not machinists. :)

Ah! I did not know that. Thank you for that information.

I will configure my machine for 'mm'.

The nice thing about UCCNC is that I can support multiple profiles. Both 'inch' and 'metric'.
