Frustrated and No idea what to do.

Postby JeremyFXDWG » Sun Aug 19, 2018 6:58 pm

I have been troubleshooting this for 20+ hours. My machine is unusable and I am at a loss what to do.

I am having an issue with homing and spindle and the symptoms are drastically different if I run 1.2048 or 1.2106

Homing Issue:
1.2048- My machine will not home. When I home any axis it it moves toward the NPN NC limit backs off the limit and goes into an error state that you can't get the software out of without closing it down and reloading it.

1.2106 - Machine homes as expected on all Axis. Basically a non-issue and all limits act as expected. I don't know what is different in this version but it works fine.

Spindle Issue:
I am running my spindle as a step/direction spindle. If I run my spindle from the VFD the machine operates normally so I don't think it is noise. I am running Igus chainflex shielded cable so noise should be contained.

1.2048 - as soon as I enable the spindle or issue an M3 Sxxxx command it says Limit Switch Triggered and nothing happens.

1.2106 - This is super weird. If I install the software and load my cnc profile I can enable the spindle and issue M3 SXXXX commands and the spindle works awesome. I can go from 10 RPMS to 24k no probelm. When I tell it to run 18k it shows 303hz on the VFD wich is perfect. I can do this for as long as I want and jog the machine while it is happening. If I shut the spindle down, when I go to re-enable it is says Limit Switch Triggered. If i close down the software and open it again same thing.. Limit switch triggered. If I reinstall the software the spindle works fine again... once..... and then same problem.

If 1.2106 would work without needing to reinstall the software each time I would just use that version but I am at a loss of what to do.

Thanks,
Jeremy

1.2048 is the same as 1.2047 and is in release so long time that we would already hear about such issues that you reporting now.
And so I think the issue is in your system and not in the software.

The limit switch trigger means that an input which you configured as a limit input of an axis is going into it's configured active state when the motion controller triggers a Reset.

If your machine goes into a limit error state when it is getting homed is probably because your limit switch's switching point is instable and so when the axis moves off the switch the switch goes off when the motion controller stops homing and reenabling the limit switch if the home and the limit switch is the same switch and the switch then again activating because it has an instable switching point and so the motion controller goes into limit input trigger and activating a reset.

In version 1.2106 there is a back-off parameter which could resolve the above mentioned non-stable home switch issue.

If the limit switch triggers when you enable the spindle is definately because your spindle motor generating noise which somehow triggering one or more limit input.
Check your wiring and check your groundings. Make star shape grounding to minimise noise in your control system.

The spindle issue is most certainly a noise issue.

As for homing, in 2106 a debounce option was added. That may be having an effect, even if you have 0 for the debounce value.

I would expect 2106 to be the full release pretty soon, as it's been in development quite a while now.

In the meantime, try adding some Input debounce in 2106, and maybe play with the shield and other grounding on your spindle.

Really ... I forgot about that there is a debounce setting also in 1.2106 as Gerry said, I forgot about that. :)

If it is noise why would it work every time I do a fresh install of the software but only one time?

I agree on the unstable switching point. I also found, playing around some more today, if I up the back off speed I can fix the issue. I will play with the denounce as well.

I am more focused on the spindle issue. I will double check my grounds tomorrow.

I had the same issue with 048 if back off was set too slow.
Also I set the park position 3mm off all switches- so I don’t get false trigger.

How is the back-off set too low when there is no back-off in version 048?! I mean how could you set something low which setting does not exist in that version? :)

he said too s-l-o-w, not too low, referring to the backoff speed.
Must be some oscillation at the switching point when moving slowly?
