New build Closed loop steppers. Y-axis only jogging one way

I just put together a Bulkman3D UltimateBee with AXBB-E controller and closed loop steppers, Chinese PFDE - HBS57 motor controllers, running UCCNC.
48V - 20.8A supply for motors, 24V - 1.8A, & 5V -0.8A supplies to AXBB-E.



Just setting up and trying jog functions first.

I have Y-axis slaved to A-axis and I can only jog in one direction. Both axis setup identical.

I powered down, disconnected A-axis from motor controller, then Y-axis jogs in both directions.

Powered down disconnected Y-axis, jogged A-axis in both directions.



Is there some setting in the software I’m missing?

A bit of an update.

Decided to try reversing the motors with the dip switch on the motor control.

Then Y-axis goes the other way by pressing Y+, but Y- still won’t do anything.

Measure the voltage at the direction pin on the drives, and AXBB when jogging in different directions. Is the LED on the AXBB changing state when you change directions?

Found my issue.

After reading about some power supply grounding, if the 5V, 24V & 48V motor supply should be common V0. They should be separate. I thought I would change the grounding of my motor controllers, for the logic.

That was the issue.


Originally, for all of my PUL -, & DIR - on my motor drives signals, I ran a main daisy-chain ground from my on the 48V0 motor power supply.

Since PUL, & DIR are on the 5V logic, I moved that grounding to the 5V0, where the logics come from, & everything jogging smoothly, as it should.
