Help required with Relay Control

Postby Kenennis » Fri Dec 18, 2020 4:07 pm

Hi . I recently bought an ABB-X controller around which I am trying to build a new control box. I have an existing Mach3 system which all works but I would like to change to a UCCNC system. As I have a limited technical knowledge I am trying to get the some things working with UCCNC before I dismantle a system that is working and to get myself acquainted with setting up the UCCNC software. At the moment I have two problems one is with the limit switches. I have wired up a NPN sensor and whilst I can get it to light up it does not appear to be talking to the AbbX. I have tried in vain to configure it but nothing appears to work. I have it wired as per the diagram in the manual for NPN Proximity switches. Could someone please advise me where I am going wrong.

The second problem is something similar. On the Mach3 system I use the flood control and mist M7 and M8 function to switch on the spindle cooling pump and dust extraction on and off . I wired up a relay as per the diagram in the manual configured the m7 to the correct pin and port but again relay would not work. I did test with a spare e- stop button and that works so it looks like operator error with the other problems. Any advice will be very much appreciated.
thanks

If you wired the NPN proximity as per the manual and if the proximity switch is working fine then it has to work.
So, it has to be wiring or power supply problem.
Do a measurement of the Voltage on the input + and -

Maybe you wired Port#1 Output#1 for your relay, this is a usual mistake, because that output is a dedicated charge pump safety circuit output,
so that output works configured and used as charge pump only, it cannot be used for any other functions.
All other outputs should work fine for any functions like the M7, M8 etc.

Thank you for a prompt reply. I decided to start again only this time use the voltmeter to check the circuit. Although I checked visually previously there was obviously a bad connection somewhere. I am pleased that your advice to check with a voltmeter enabled me to find the problem, it was a a bad connection with a din rail through connector. So everything is now working as it should and I have learned a valuable lesson.
Thanks
