Probe screen problems

Postby mschoonmaker » Wed Apr 08, 2020 9:09 pm

All of the following tests were performed Using the "Probe tool" -> "TOUCH PROBE" settings choices.

1.
After placing the Z-axis over my touch plate, I click "SET AS WORKPIECE PROBE POS", and then click START PROBING. This turns on the "Workpiece probe pos. saved" LED. Again I do START PROBING and the probing executes as expected, and returns to the original Z-Axis position prior to the probing.

2.
Next I attempt PROBE IN WORKPIECE PROBE POS. Based upon Probe_Help.mht, I expected this to move to the "Workpiece probe pos" and then begin probing, either with or without the "START PROBING" button confirmation, just like "SET AS WORKPIECE PROBE POS". Nothing happened, other than "lighting up" the PROBE IN WORKPIECE PROBE POS button. I'm guessing that I need to EITHER click "START PROBING" or "WORKP PROBE POS", but I have no idea. A message in the status box (Like that during "SET AS WORKPIECE PROBE POS") would be most helpful

So, I then clicked "START PROBING" and found the Z-axis to drive BELOW the 0.00 height then moved to the X/Y coordinates that were saved with the SET AS WORKPIECE PROBE POS action, then moved up to original Z-axis height, and then started probing action. EXPECTED: Without a change of the Z-axis height, X & Y would have moved to the coordinates stored with SET AS WORKPIECE PROBE POS. Certainly did not expect the Z-axis to move to a position BELOW the Z-Axis zero.

THIS IS BROKEN - for the Z-Axis to drive below zero, then move to the Workpiece location, drive to original Z-height, then start probing DOWN simply cannot work. At all.

After redoing the same steps as #1 above, I did the following
3.
I then attempted WORKP PROBE POS, and the Z-axis drives to BELOW the 0.00 height then moves to the X/Y coordinates that were saved with the initial SET AS WORKPIECE PROBE POS. EXPECTED: Without a change of the Z-axis height, X & Y would have moved to the coordinates stored with SET AS WORKPIECE PROBE POS. Certainly did not expect the Z-axis to move to a position BELOW the Z-Axis zero.

COMMENTS:
With the new UI, it would be MOST HELPFUL to know which buttons execute motion/actions, and which buttons simply set a change of state or set a value. Using the items above as reference:
SET AS WORKPIECE PROBE POS: sets a coordinate pair values
PROBE IN WORKPIECE PROBE POS: enables/disables/sets functionality but does not perform motion
WORKP PROBE POS: Performs motion (although the button DOES have an arrow in it, presumably to indicate "motion"

It makes it quite difficult to click one's way around the UI to figure out what's going on. Perhaps the help docs could reflect this.

Another probing issue:

When retracting after probing is complete (both single and 2-pass probing), it appears to retract first to the distance specified in the "Retract" parameter and then to the original Z-axis position prior to starting the probing.

Expected behavior: After probing complete, retract would not be 2 successive moves, but just a single move EITHER to the Retract parameter's position OR to the original Z-axis position
