Hi Tipos, really 2 years you've had this problem and still no fix from cncdrive?
Does anyone still work there?
I'm begrudgingly developing some software to modify a gcode file to include backlash compensation in X axis, in the actual toolpath. Meanwhile I've been in touch with Newfangled Solutions and they said it's the first they hear of this problem, and they will investigate. Meanwhile I asked their recommendation for a good motion controller that will work correctly in Mach4, they suggested Warp9 Ethernet Smooth Stepper. Tomorrow I will check whether this motion controller can work with our setup.
Interesting with Newfangled Solutions's response because i had a ticket on support, here it is.
The Warp's motion controller looks promising, but i choose to try Mesa card, it is 1/2 price of it with free SW. I am only hobby maker so price is important for me
Yes, we found that the X backlash really not working on the X axis with Mach4. It works fine with MAch3 and UCCNC though. Why don't you try UCCNC software?
We will fix the issue, but it is likely take time, because the Machsupport guys changed lots of things since we last time change the plugin, so we have to install the new API and the new libraries and new compiler etc. etc. it takes us lots of time to figure it out, sorry.
Hi, thanks for the reply. Have you tried reaching out to Newfangled Solutions? I'm sure they'd be willing to assist with the problem, and they probably know their own API better than anyone. :> I know they are watching this thread now. Feel free to chime in anytime guys :D
Is your software free for UC100 users? We could give it a try I guess, if Newfangled are unable to help.
"The software is free to download and runs in demo mode. It is fully functional, but can not talk to your machine until its licenced. A license costs $60."
I think guys from Newfangled are not interested on any hw which are not theirs. Why they should especially in hobby range?
Ah yea that would be a problem. I don't want to go shelling out more money, especially when Mach4 and the UC100 is already paid for and _should_ work together.
7. Known limitations and bugs Known limitations: There are no known limitations in the current firmware version. Known bugs: There are no known bugs in the current firmware version http://cncdrive.com/MC/UC100%20datashee ... 0guide.pdf
But, in the user manual, "backlash compensation" is listed under the heading "Supported Mach3 functions" implying it's not supported in Mach4.
What's the official line - is backlash "supported" on Mach4? Do you have a timescale for when it will work? I'm not as patient as Tipos and I'm not about to wait 2 years without progress.
I think it is a bug in our Mach4 plugin, but the issue is when you guys asked about the issue then the Mach4 API was changed so much that we needed to reinstall new development tools and figure out the changes, my collegues stucked with it and it took lots and lots of time, so we finally did not figure it out. My collegue promised that he will give it another go later to see if he can figure it out this time. You could try UCCNC though, it can do the same things as Mach3/4.
Thanks for the update, and for sharing details of the problems you faced. Please let us know how your colleague gets on, and do consider reaching out to Newfangled for assistance if needed, as it's in everyone's interest, especially theirs, that this works. :>
This maybe a dumb question... why don't you address the machine backlash issues? Using software backlash comp doesn't fix the problem and in my experience it creates more problems than it solves.
