Correct. Everything is programmed to be placed on the machine at the machine coordinate origin, or to use machine coordinates. On the big industrial routers I've used, you don't even have to zero the Z axis, as the parts are placed on the spoilboard, and the g-code contains the part thickness.
You never use Work offsets ?? I do not know of any Job shops that do it that way not saying it is not done.
At work never. At home, maybe 1% of the time.
Cabinet shop, not a job shop.
