AXBBE MODBUS?

Postby Archy » Thu Aug 05, 2021 7:48 pm

Can AXBBE talk both ways to modbus on a VFD? If So what pins are used for receiving data? Curious on if it can read modbus data from VFD to read the current draw of the VFD/Spindle and read it in the UCCNC software somehow and display on screen without using an rs 485 dongle.

And question about AXBBE inputs, can you attach a switch to the input positive and negative and read it or does the switch need external power?

Thanks

None of the controllers talk Modbus, but there is a ModbusMaster plugin and Dan's MODBUSEZ plugin. The second one is exactly what you need. Get an RS485 serial port for your PC to connect to the VFD.

...just don't get a USB - RS485 dongle. USB, while it may work, is not reliable enough for the purpose. Considering you have an AXBBE, you should continue using Ethernet connection, so better to get a virtual RS485 port. I am using this USR-TCP232-410s and is working flawlessly since many years.

No, the AXBB-E cannot do Modbus on it's pins, it can only use an RS232 connection or USB or Ethernet connection depending on the Modbus protocol and device used.

Can I use https://www.iot-store.com.au/products/d ... -usr-dr302 and a din rail ethernet switch like so?
Ethernet cable to din rail switch, then 2 wires - One to axbbe, the other to the rs485 din rail converter? Kinda want to fit everything into my enclosure. Not essential though, I can always add a second enclosure. I do need to add a second PC to the CNC router and a touch screen monitor for my long term goal, at the moment I have a pc a few meters away but I'd like a dedicated small form factor PC with a monitor stand, with keyboard/mouse tray to be fancy lol.

And is the UCSB the only breakout board for the AXBBE?

Yes, you can use that too. The one I use has an RS232 port also, which comes handy if you for example want to add servo motors and need to configure those using RS232. AXBBE does not need a bob at all, unless you want to isolate all the inputs and outputs.
