laser install new user

Postby courtjester » Fri Aug 28, 2020 6:47 pm

I am going through a new user (UCCNC)install, moving from Mach 3. I have been able to work through many setting and have the setup almost finished.
One of the last things is hooking up a laser to the table I had it working just fine in Mach 3 had it triggering the laser and changing the power.
I have the laser setup with an external power supply to get power to the laser. What happens when I switch the external power on the laser is completely on (no power value sent PWM yet) and the software triggers the reset. Only action taken was the external power was turned on. I am using a 400ETH and the original BOB that was used with Mach 3 no wiring changing other that the cable from the 400ETH to the parallel input connection to the BOB. I am using the 1.2112 screen set.

The reset can be triggered by the e-stop input or the limit switch inputs.
You should figure out which one is triggering.
I would do that with disabling the limit switches leaving the e-stop on and check and then the same with the limit inputs with the e-stop input disabled.
Knowing which one triggers the reset you could go after the problem with checking the wiring, the grounding etc.
If switching the power supply on causing the issue then the power supply putting EMI noise into the system, powering up power supplies usually causing some inrush current into the capacitors in the PSU so probably that causing the issue.

You could also use the Debounce filter of the UCCNC to filter out short spike like inputs on the limit and e-stop input, that could solve the problem instantly.
The Debounce filter ignores input pulses which are shorter than the set time constant of the filter.
For example if you will set it to 10 milliseconds time constant than any pulses which are shorter than that will be ignored, will not trigger the input.

thanks for the reply removing the home/limit inputs did stop the reset from coming when power to the laser module is applied, but the laser also comes on with just power to the module should not do that only when the signal for the PWM is applied this is the way it worked before.

As I stated the only change was adding the 400ETH into the controller, all worked through Mach with the same BOB.

When looking at the IO monitor page I am confused by some lights being on, nothing is attached to the port#2 but there are lights on. I am assuming they are showing the connections to the computer on port #1 but what do they mean, some red others green. Some are pin 3 for the axis.

In the second image why does it say limit triggered (middle of page)with nothing in the diagnostic shows triggered.

Next thing I am using pin #4 as my PWM output for the laser I would like to know where to put it. Attached is the manual for the BOB I am using.

Hi,

On port 2. those pins are all inputs, they are green LEDs with the "I" mark means inputs.
All inputs on the UC400ETH are pulled high internally just like on an LPT/printer port.
So, the input LEDs are on, because those input pins are on high (5 Volts) Voltage level.
They are like that if nothing is connected to the port.

Probably your limit switch was triggered previously is why the message is there in the status field.
The last message written there does not dissapear, it only dissapears when it is overwritten with a new text message.

thanks for the reply and the answer for those questions,I still have this one.

Next thing I am using pin #4 as my PWM output for the laser I would like to know where to put it in the software?
