New Ideas for UCCNC features?

What exactly would you want teh probing plugin to do?

I think he means something like this http://www.craftycnc.com/probe-it-wizard-mach3/ but working with uccnc. I could do with this as a guitar maker I have to reproduce neck shapes so a probe is about the only way to do this accuarately.

I recall that at one point they were working on porting their probing plugin to UCCNC, but haven't heard anything for a while now. You might want to contact them and ask about it.

I'm still hoping to make a version of 'ProbeIt', or at minimum the perimeter tracing portion for UCCNC, but currently have not started. 1st problem is my day job has become to much of a distraction currently, so my hobbies have been taking a back seat. 2nd thing is UCCNC will need to support multiple simultaneous axis probing (combined x/y moves in a probe move command). Once that is available, I can hopefully start to work on it (or try to think about it ).

Find center of pocket and center of post to start with. maybe if possible a whole part(area). A perimeter inside and out too. Or anything else a probe can do for you maybe?

The licence is not expensive, and there is little point in trying to re-invent the wheel by developing something yourself unless you're bored and your time is free as Eric did a nice job with that IMHO, nice guy to chat to too as I "metrified" my copy of Probe-It which required shorter DRO's [less digits after the decimal point, and more on the other side + for a bigger table]

+1 for combined axis probing (which seems to be the holdup to anyone developing probing routines other than single axis).

This might be more of a plug in than a feature but it is somewhat similar to multi axis probing.
There is a program for digitizing or, template scanning called "scanything" http://www.sheetcam.com/Scanything/index that works with Mach3. It uses a USB microscope attached to the Z -axis to follow a line and creates G-code of how it moves. I tried it briefly with UCCNC and I was able to get the camera display to open but the rest of it didn't work. I have a couple uses for this type of digitizing if it would work with UCCNC.

Yes, it's a plug in and should not be a built in feature. Also what you describe is a 2D copier. It is easy to just take a picture and convert the pic to G code.

And if Les is already working on it for both Mach3 and Eding, why not ask him to support UCCNC as well?

I've tried the picture to G-code thing without too much success. Lens effect and scale factors seemed to prevent an accurate duplication of a subject. I guess I'd say it's a 75% solution. If scanything would work it would be exactly what I need.

Gerry - I don't know Les and it seems that any development on the program that he was doing was in 2013?? I get the feeling that he's not working on it any longer. Maybe you could mention supporting UCCNC to him if you think its worthwhile.
