Spindle Won't Start Using New Laptop!

And the controller special box and PS? Picture and model number, thanks.

So it looks like your trying to drive a VFD Inverter to a feed a 3 phase spindle motor and you need the Input On signal which is not happing. Photos of the Inverter connections and model number please so we can see the entire picture.

The *special " board is home made. You can see it on the left hand side of the 2nd picture on page 1 of this thread. The wiring diagram for it is also attached on that page

The 5v power to that boat does not come via usb as it is present when usb not connected.

The inverter is described as keb combivert but I can't get access to that presently as it's pushed against the wall. Should be able to at the weekend

OK its 3 am our time March 1st, up to take a pain pill after my nasty fall on Ice... long story.

Anyway, I think your on to something with the VFD enable On-Off signal, and that relay click. So it may be looking for a dry contact closure or on-off voltage signal and it looses the common ground source to the VFD when you switch USB sources?

Is the PW(5V) LED on when you try to use the machine? Without the 5V on the BOB the PWM signal will not be generated, it needs both 5V and 12(up to 24)V.

Mystery remains unexplained but I bought a cheap all in one pc that I will use with a wireless mouse and keyboard and it works fine. So there must be some sort of a difference between the usb on all 4 of the laptops I have tried and the usb on a pc based machine.

Excellent, and I am guessing as others it was the voltage/power at the laptop USB vs desktop. You said you had added a powered USB hub but it was not doing the job. These are the better ones > https://www.tomshardware.com/best-picks/best-usb-hubs
