Post anything you want to discuss with others about the software.

you can probe with the z axis if you require and set the home co-ordinates accordingly, but you would not use the "standard" home routine / onsceen button.... you could however change the button to run a custom macro which could then partially automate your homing sequence and setup.

limit / ome switches would be a recommended addition to you machine as they would speed up the homing process and automate it for you (without a manual routine / a custom macro).

I do now have the Z-probe working.

I am reviewing the Mach3 training video on homing & limits, and this now begs a new question: It seems in Mach3, one can toggle the toolpath display to see the toolpath itself, or the "machine table" display (their words). Is there a similar functionality in UCCNC? I would think this would help in getting a better handle on work offsets...

You can set up a grid on the display the size of your table. Look under Appearance Settings.

sounds good, but I can't seem to identify the specific item to accomplish this in the software's documentation. It seems that nothing in Appearance Settings provides for putting in any values other than on/off checked/unchecked and colors. Can you suggest the item's name please?

I suspect that you are using the stable release of uccnc and not the development release

Do you see a button labeled "Workpiece Area and Grid Setup"?

What version of UCCNC are you using? The current version is 1.2111, which should have that button.

Doh! I'm such an idiot! There is that button, I could only see the forest through the trees (could only process the checkboxes)!

thanks, my apologies!

Edit: I did however search the user's manual for the word "Grid" and it only produced 3 instances, all related to the "Grid Control" used in the Screen Editor. Seems like an opportunity to enhance the user's manual...
