Jog step speed

Postby zerox123 » Thu Feb 15, 2018 9:50 am

Hello everybody,

This week i started with my new Stepcraft 840(Black edition). With UCCNC it works great! My previous CNC machine was a chinese CNC 3018 ;)
One thing i do not fully understand is the jog speed with Step enabled. When i select 1.00 the axis is moving 1.00 mm. So everything is OK. But the speed is always different. Sometimes 2000 mm/min, but at first startup it is 6 mm/min, so very slow. It seems UCCNC is using the last feed speed.
Using Continous it used the speed selected(1 to 100% of max speed) which is great.
How can this be changed?

When in step jog mode then the Feedrate of the jog is set by the programmed Feedrate (Fact), which you can change e.g. via MDI with the F command, like F1000.

When in Step jog and you have a long distance set then you do not have personal control over stopping early. You would have to abort or Estop .

I don't think it is a safety issue. If the last feed setting was 2000 mm/min, it will step at 2000 mm/min. It would be nice if it has a custom setting so it is always a safe speed.

It works like this on industrial controls.
Originally the feedrate was set by the % on the jog panel also for the step-jog mode, but many customers said it is not good, unsafe and not how it is done on other controllers,
so then we changed it to use the Fset programmed feedrate. It was a long time ago when this was changed... originally it worked as you now want it to work, but since people said it's unsafe and not how it supposed to work we changed it.

Thanks for the quick responses. I have no experience with professional CNC machines, so i don't know what is common.
It is for me not a problem to work with a command like F1000.

Is there a macro that will default F1000 on startup? Or other ideas to default jog step rate. Thank you
