Buy licence from local reseller or direct?

Postby muzzlitebeer » Sun Apr 17, 2022 1:20 pm

I'm very new here and have read a couple of posts about failing hardware and not contacting CNCdrive for a licence transfer before being coerced into buying a new licence from the (seemingly dishonest) local distributor. (not CNCdrive's fault)

So, what is the advantage of buying local, especially after working out the exhange rate, it seems it's actually cheaper to pay in Euros than $AUD?

Also, can the software be downloaded and explored before receiving the hardware? Or the licence key?

there are 2 parts to uccnc.

the hardware (axbbe/uc100/uc400eth/uc300eth)
the software - uccnc

you buy the hardware and once you get it the serial number key is issued (by cncdrive only)

the hardware has a coded serial number that only your licence will work with.... if you buy two items of hardware you WILL need 2x licences as again all hardware has a unique serial number.

I don't believe you will get your licence key at the same time your hardware arrives. it always comes later.

if you are unfortunate to kill or abuse your hardware.... CNC drive will I believe offer you a discount and not charge you for another licence for uccnc, but you must provide them with verifiable proof that the device is no longer able to be used (by drilling a hole through the CPU) AND buying a replacement piece of hardware.

I have only ever bought direct from cncdrive.

they are based in Hungary, and shipping of hardware has always proved to be fast (to the UK). communication can be slow if you are expecting instant responses as they sleep eat and work normal working days and take public holidays too.... and sometimes programmers are on holiday too....

always give them a few days to respond, this applies to the issue of licences and responses to questions too.... EVEN if you email them!!! some people expect them on speed dial and there is some irate posts on the forum.

the issue of licences is a manual operation requiring human input.... and only cncdrive do it so it takes just as long regardless who you buy the hardware from.

Buying locally has the advantage of local businesses hour's support, if you get any support. Otherwise it's also about supporting your local business, which is also a good thing.

Anyway, as Robert says, some people expect instant support H24/7 every day, which is totally unreasonable, since CNC Drive is a business, they work normal hours according to what's normal in Hungary. Holidays are also Hungarian holidays, but my experience is positive, though I never really had any need for support. Support questions are also most of the times quickly answered by the users on this forum, but some questions require answers from CNC Drive.

I bought one license from their US distributor, and one direct from CNC Drive. No real difference.
