Spindle wiring

Postby Jpryder5 » Tue Mar 08, 2022 10:20 pm

We recently purchased a ABXX-E cnc controller to replace our XHC ether mk3 et card in our pre-built cnc machine but we can't seem to figure out how to wire in the VFD for our spindle, bellow is the documentation on our VFD(BEST-FC300), the XHC controller, a picture of the VFD's wires leading out to the board(with labels) and a picture of what it looked like when plugged into the XHC. We would greatly appreciate some assistance as we are completely lost on how to wire it in, thanks.
XHC Manuel: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1747469/Wixhc-Mach3-Mk-Et-Series.html
VFD Manuel: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MLURQeD0QK-oyHUk2tYTO2kOJNcsQB3I/view?usp=sharing
We did follow UCCNC's wiring instructions as best we could and somehow wound up burning out our 24V power supply.

Thanks for your time.

This is how I wired my AXBB-E to my Yalang VFD
VFD terminal AXBB-E terminal
VI1 ---> AO1
GND ---> 5V0 (from 5V power out not 5V0 on Port 1)
XGND ---> 24V0 (I took this from my 24V common)
FWD ---> Pin 7, Port 1
In the UCCNC software:
Spindle config screen set PWM Pin to Pin 7, Port 1
I/O Setup screen set Spindle PWM -> analog ch to 1

I changed VFD parameters to allow external control.
Reading your VFD manual it look like P064 and P065 are the settings to change to allow external control.

We tried something that looked like the following:
DCM to 24V0
ACM to 5V0
FOR to pin1 port 1
AVI to AOV
Mystery wire to nothing(N or 10V, still don't know what it does exactly)
Upon starting everything up the 24V power supply was burned out, no sound no real indication aside from the AXBB-E's 24V indicator going out.
What confuses me is everything suggests this is correct when googling and reading forum posts across cnczone and here.
The VFD worked before replacing the controller and was set to allow external controls.

One odd thing I have noticed is that after a cold start of the controller and PC, pressing the Spindle CW button has no effect. To 'wake up' the spindle I first have to enter M3S24000 in the MDI.
After that the Spindle CW button works. The M3 command in Gcode works just fine.

Hiya David, When you cold start the program look at the spindle rpm DRO is it ZERO ?? Set the RPM. Then press the CW button.

Interesting. I'll check that today.
Appreciate the tip!

That absolutely was the issue. On startup the rpm was set to 10. I set it to 12000 and hit Spindle CW and the spindle started. Hurray!

The 10v terminal is not needed because:
If using vfd manually then the 10v on vfd is to send power to a 3 wire potentiometer. That power is then controlled in pot and sent back into AVI via the wiper, then 3rd wire to Agnd.
Or something like that.
Is not needed due to manual pot override can be done on AXBB-E via the Analog in ports.
