Sensors flickering

Postby Jpryder5 » Thu Mar 10, 2022 9:33 am

We just got a AXBB-E board to replace our old XHC board and are experiencing a odd flicker(consistent flickering mixed with a occasional flicker that's strong enough to create a false trigger on the software) in the Leds on our sensors and on the input leds. This didn't previously happen, and we have followed the wiring diagrams in uccnc's Manuel for npn limit switches(we want individual limits so we lightly altered it but followed its instructions). We have wired them in into two different way, once with jumper wires connecting all the positive inputs for the sensors together chaining them together, and we've split our positive wire among them in a attempt to fix this bizarre issue. We are almost completely stumped on this problem, we've tried random things, and stupid things, yet it still stays the same.
Bellow are photos of the wiring and the leds when the are on.
Yellow is the output, red is the positive, (the sensors negatives are handled elsewhere but they are all connected).

It is likely noise the sensor or it's wiring picking up.
You could try to add some load and filtering on the sensor output, possible at the AXBB-E input side.
Add a small possibly ceramic capacitor between the sensor output and ground and add a resistor to the same place.

you can also filter noise out digitally in the UCCNC software, look for "debounce filter" setting, that setting ignores short spike like signals, you can set a time contstant for it.
For example you can set it to 40mseconds and then all spikes which are shorter than 40msec will be ignored by the controller.
The digital debounce filter will not eliminate the flickering of the LEDs though, but it eliminates the false limits triggering.

We found the debounce setting and had a realization that the limit switches we are using are NO switches meaning normally open, could that be the reason we are having issues?

Adding just a small .1 uF ceramic cap at the input terminals of the AXBB worked for me for similar issue w/ normal open circuits and noise, just inserted the cap with the signal wires between the + and - terminals for the signal.
