Homing mill table to the middle

Postby rbmgf7 » Thu Jan 21, 2021 2:09 pm

I'm retrofitting an old Tree Journeyman 325 and so far have the motion hooked up and am about the install the limit switches.

This is my first time using a UC300Eth so I might not fully understand the functions (yet) that I want to use so I might be disoriented in what I'm explaining.

What I want to do is give this mill a machine zero like a commercial machine where the table is centered underneath the spindle and Z retracted up. Then I can have softlimits as well.

I have an idea for Y and Z as I can use a limit switch as a home then the 'write offset on homing' and 'back off' function. I only have 14" of Y travel and 6" for Z so this isn't a big deal if the Y or Z is furthest away from the homing/limit switch.

I'm stumped for X. What would be the best way to have the machine zero return on X? I figure if I do the limit switch method, I would hate to have the bed at the complete opposite end of the switch. I know there's an independent homing input but if the machine starts up without having been zero returned or loses power (doesn't know where it's at), do I have to jog the machine on the contact side of the limit switch each time, then home? If so, it's not a burden but at least I know what to do and what to expect.

Thanks.

There is an option on axis for write offset on homing, have your home switch at the (or close to the end of travel) and then write the offset to adjust for the positive (or negative) position so the machine is at zero when centred.
